How to Measure Distance for PWV

The SphygmoCor XCEL supports two distance measurement methods for PWV:

  • Direct method: Measure directly from the carotid artery to the top edge of the femoral cuff.
  • Subtraction method (default): Measure from the sternal notch to the top edge of the femoral cuff (distal distance) and from the carotid artery to the sternal notch (proximal distance). Subtract the proximal distance from the distal distance to obtain the aortic distance used in the PWV calculation.
