Why Are My Blood Pressure Readings Different Between Devices?
It’s not uncommon to notice slight differences when comparing blood pressure readings from two different monitors—even when taken back-to-back. If you're using the CONNEQT Pulse alongside another device like an Omron, here's what to keep in mind.
1. Small Differences Between Devices Are Normal
Blood pressure can vary from minute to minute. Even if two readings are taken just 1–2 minutes apart, they may differ slightly. Factors like posture, stress, breathing, hydration, and cuff placement can all impact your numbers.
Different devices also use slightly different methods, cuff designs, and algorithms to measure blood pressure. As a result, two clinically validated devices can show readings that aren’t exactly the same.
2. Both Devices Can Still Be Accurate
In one example, a user reported the following month-long averages:
- CONNEQT Pulse: 118/74
- Omron 5450: 114/68
Both are considered normal based on American Heart Association guidelines. Small, consistent differences do not mean one device is inaccurate.

Note: While we can provide general education about blood pressure readings, we are not able to directly compare measurements across different devices or determine which one is more accurate. If you have concerns, we recommend speaking with your physician.
3. When to Speak with Your Physician
If your readings show large or sudden discrepancies—typically 10–15 mmHg or more—or if you’re unsure which reading to trust, consult your physician. They can help determine whether follow-up testing is necessary.
4. Tips for Getting More Consistent Readings
To reduce variability, try the following:
- Take readings at the same time each day (morning is best)
- Sit quietly for 5 minutes before measuring
- Keep feet flat on the floor and back supported
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, exercise, or large meals 30 minutes before measuring
- Use the same arm and place the cuff correctly at heart level
